IT’S A DIRTY JOB – BUT SOMEONE HAS TO DO IT!!

Getting the good stuff down!

Early spring and muck spreading season is upon us.  It has been an integral part of farming and food production for centuries.  In fact, if you think about it, muck spreading is the earliest form of re-cycling!!

The basic principle is very simple – manure and composted materials are returned to the soil to add fertility, improve soil structure to help grow new crops.  The application of manure is an essential way of protecting and maintaining the health and fertility of our soils now and for generations to come, it’s makes good soil husbandry sense.

After a couple of cold frosty days, Richard has been out with the muck spreader, putting nitrogen rich well-rotted manure back onto the fields to help boost the regrowth of grass, ready for silage cutting later in the farming year - reducing the need to add artificial fertilisers or buying in feeds.

Just like our grazing animals, our land itself also needs food, and the most natural source of this nutrition is the shit from our animals, which is available in abundance and it’s FREE!!
